Eighteen Northern California hospitals have been honored by Practice Greenhealth, a national networking organization for healthcare organizations working towards sustainable eco-friendly practices.

The highest award is the Environmental Leadership Award honoring health care facilities which demonstrate excellent environmental practices and sustainability in health care. These award winners have virtually eliminated mercury from their facility, they recycle at least 25% of their total waste, are innovators in sustainability, as well as leaders in their communities. For 2010 Northern California healthcare facilities that have won this award are:

Dominican Hospital – Santa Cruz
Sequoia Hospital – Redwood City
St. Joseph’s Medical Center – Stockton
