A new medical facility and 120-bed nursing home for veterans will be located in either Stockton or the French Camp area of San Joaquin County, according to an announcement this week by Congressman Jerry McNerney (D-Pleasanton). The story was first reported in the Stockton Record.

San Joaquin County was chosen in May of this year by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to host the new facilities. A specific location recommendation is expected by the VA this calendar year.

According to the Record, unnamed local officials would like to have the new facilities adjacent to San Joaquin General Hospital. The VA apparently agrees with at least some of the logic, as the choices for location are a box-shaped area of Stockton and French Camp. The Record notes that this area encompasses San Joaquin General in the south and runs along Hammer Lane in the north. The eastern edge extends beyond Highway 99.
