Only a few days after the previous Chief Executive Officer returned to Colorado, the California Medical Association found a new CEO from inside the organization. Dustin Corcoran, a 12-year veteran at CMA, was promoted this week to Chief Executive Officer, only days after CMA’s Board announced they would decide how to proceed with hiring a new CEO at the end of the month. CMA President Brennan Cassidy, MD, said Corcoran brought a combination of experience and leadership that his organization needs. “Dustin brings tremendous leadership toCMA at the time we most need it, when physicians are fighting like never before to maintain practice viability and improve the quality of care and access to care for all of their patients,” said Cassidy. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to step into this role,” Corcoran said. “It’s an honor to work for such a wonderful profession. The work that physicians do is truly amazing and I could not think of a job I would rather have than serving the physician community.” Corcoran played an important part in lobbying the Legislature to pass, and Gov. Gray Davis to sign, SB 2, legislation that would have required employers to provide their workers with health insurance or pay a fee. The bill was overturned via an initiative. |
