After only six months on the job, California Medical Association Chief Executive Officer Alfred Gilchrist is leaving California and returning to his previous position as head of the Colorado Medical Society. Gilchrist’s resignation is effective as of last Friday (January 29, 2010).

Dustin Corcoran, CMA's senior vice president, will take over as the association's interim CEO. The CMA Board will meet in February to discuss how to find a new CEO.

Gilchrist told the Capitol Weekly that he let his head rule his head overrule his heart in taking the CMA job.

"I wish to thank the CMA family for all its support and understanding," Gilchrist said. "The bottom line is my heart remains in Colorado and that's where I need to be."
